Born as a premature baby with a hole in the heart, Sanil Shetty has struggled past all odds to get where he is today, standing before us as a true athletic warrior, dazzling his way to the top with his consecutive spectacular performances.  He may have fought several battles on the court, but the most crucial one that he fought was off the court.

There are many components that make for a captivating journey. However, very few involve a pull at the heart strings. Seeking motivation at such a young and tender age, having fought such a severe illness, Sanil felt fascinated and envious of his elder brother, Sachin Shetty. Sachin accomplished great success in the Junior Table Tennis Circuit, enough to ignite a fire for the sport in his younger brother’s heart. Soon after, Sachin discontinued his budding profession in this sport and started to coach at 21 years. Both Sachin and Sanil have been supporting each other since.

Sanil eventually advanced to become India’s National TT Champion in 2014, and also the first man from Mumbai to have accomplished this much, after Kamlesh Mehta since 1995. In the Ultimate Table Tennis League, Sanil has been a member of the Falcons TT. Followed by this, Sanil won a Bronze along with his teammate Harmeet Desai in the Men’s Doubles at  Gold Coast 2018. Over the years, Sanil has fought against and defeated some very big names in the industry and there seems to be nothing strong enough to break his focus and desire. Sanil also went on to win a Gold at the Commonwealth Games 2018 as part of the winning men’s team.

From taking a shot as low as his knee and defeating some legendary cross-court champions, TT enthusiast Sanil Shetty is on his journey to triumph and make the nation proud. Here’s a brief glimpse of our delightful conversation with the rising star, Sanil Shetty.
